Get the Asphalt Shingle Look with Durable Metal Roofing
Illinois homeowners Mary and Ed Hayes have remodeled their home quite a few times throughout their 50-year marriage and got tired of replacing their asphalt shingle roof every 15 to 20 years. Mary loved the durability of metal roofing but thought the material only fit their farm buildings — not their house. When she discovered today’s sophisticated metal roofing products could give them the look she wanted and all of the added benefits of metal roofing — from better climate control to lower homeowner insurance premiums — she was hooked. Mary and Ed enlisted Cool Roofs owner Todd Meinhold to give them the beautiful, one-and-done metal roof they craved.
Classic Midwest Hailstorm Moves Illinois Couple to Choose Metal
When a hailstorm hit the Central Illinois town of Roanoke, residents gathered outside to take stock of the widespread damage to their asphalt shingle roofs. Retired farmers Gene and Jerry Zoss were no strangers to the benefits of metal roofing, and when their insurance adjuster encouraged them to replace their asphalt shingles with metal, it was an easy decision. Gene, especially, knew about the growth of metal roofing and the high quality of newer elements like fade- and chalk-resistant paint systems.
“I wouldn’t put another asphalt roof on for anything. If I even built a doghouse, I’d put a metal roof on it.” -Gene Zoss, Homeowner
With Future Generations in Mind, Homeowner Goes with Metal
Since 2005, John Lewis has operated the family farm passed down from his parents. When he embarked on a major update to the home’s exterior in 2017, he committed to maintain the property’s rich family history and opted for a metal roof with exposed fasteners. Today, he and his wife still love the look of their roof as much as its maintenance-free guarantee. John is also quick to debunk some common consumer concerns about metal roofing: He says they never hear the rain and enjoy perfect cell coverage inside the house.
High-Performance Metal Roof Adds Farmhouse Appeal to Urban Retreat
Architect Nate Kipnis’s Chicago clients had a real gem: Expansive property in the city’s Ravenswood neighborhood, with views of the Chicago River and a 57-acre city park. Kipnis knew that with the right plan, the family’s urban home could have all the appeal of a rural escape. The result? A farmhouse-inspired plan and exterior, complete with a silo-like turret and standing-seam metal roof. Petersen’s PAC-CLAD standing-seam design made it easy to attach solar panels, and the finished product is as sustainable as it is beautiful.
Metal Roof Gives Illinois Farmhouse Contemporary Pop
When architect Michael Buss met with the owners of a cul-de-sac property in Burr Ridge, Illinois, they voiced a desire for a farmhouse look with a metal roof. Buss says the project’s metal roof is a perfect fit for the home’s design, complete with a gable roof, lap siding and a bit of stone base. About 5,900 sq. ft. of Petersen’s Snap-Clad panels fulfilled his clients’ desire for a distinctive design.

Metal Panels Save Wisconsin Home’s Roof After Slate Failure
When a slate roof on an impressive residence in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, failed after only six years, Petersen’s Redi-Roof panels came to the rescue. About 14,000 sq. ft. of Petersen’s PAC-CLAD Redi-Roof panels, finished in Dark Bronze for a distinctive look, were installed. Though complex, the roof design presented no major challenges to installer Steve Billman and his crew.
Traditional Home with Metal Roof Lands LEED Platinum Certification
This home in Chicago’s North Shore area is classic in its style, form and proportion and yet modern in its use of materials, colors and systems. It is also affordable: despite being the area’s first new home to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification, the highest possible rating, it was built at a competitive market-rate cost. The standing seam metal roof was a key element of the sustainable design, with Energy Star approval and a high reflectivity and SRI (Solar Reflectance Index) rating.

Metal Roof Plays a Starring Role in Sophisticated Farmhouse Design
The owners of this Tallahassee, Florida, home wanted a comfortable yet tailored farmhouse style. In working with his clients to achieve their vision, architect Brandon Ingram considered only metal for the roof material, viewing it as a must-have for the farmhouse directive. The home’s bold, exaggerated gables interplay with exposed rafter tails and brackets to give the residence a sense of animation. Ingram says the design would have far less impact if it didn’t have a metal roof.

Texas Hill Country Ranch Blends Industrial Materials with Ultra-Modern Aesthetics
Architect Jack Carson created a striking design for his ranch home in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. The 7,000-sq.-ft. residence follows LEED principles, and the roof’s Petersen Precision Series panels complement materials like Texas limestone sourced directly from the property. Carson is familiar with metal roofing’s low maintenance and sustainability benefits, and he never considered other materials.
“Metal is far greener than asphalt shingles and other alternatives. It’s just a great option for residential construction.” -Jack Carson, Architect and Homeowner
